I have one area which serves both my yards for engine servicing. This is the area as it was earlier this year when I decided to replace the Walthers 90′ turntable with a scratch built 115′ turntable. I have always wanted to build my own turntable and decided to do it now. The 90′ turntable functioned well, but limited my choice of engines, adding another 25′ would give me many more options.

Oh, and by the way, I need to add uncouplers to this yard. Oh, I need a roundhouse to accommodate a couple of larger engines and I never really liked the Walthers coaling tower. I guess we’ll have a few more structures to build as well.
Well, out with the old!

And in with the new! The scratch built 115′ turntable is finished as well as the Walthers 6 stall modern roundhouse.

I scratch built the coaling tower using plans from a 1951 issue of model railroader, including the sand house. I also built a Tichy Fairbanks-Morse water column kit and there is a Walthers water tower in the background. Just to the right will be a cinder dump station.
